Get centered for the holidays and create your own one-of-a-kind Advent Wreath or Winter Mobile out of renewable materials including aromatic herbs. Workshops held at Oil & Cotton Creative Exchange. Register by following links above.

Advent wreaths are an ancient way of marking each of the four weeks leading up to Christmas and celebrating the feast day. This wreath couples old-world style with a repurposed materials aesthetic. It resonates with the charms of season: gold-leafed rustic wood base, flickering candle light (in safety-conscious glass-enclosed candles) and the rich smells of rosemary, lavender and other locally-harvested herbs.

The Advent wreath makes a lovely centerpiece for special holiday gatherings and meals. The Advent wreath is also a wonderful practice for parents wishing to reexamine and reanimate “inherited religion,” those moving through grief in the wake of divorce or death, or for anyone who wishes to cultivate inner quiet in a busy season. All ages are welcome to this experiential workshop!

Materials Included:
Renewably-sourced wood base and gold leaf powder to gild the edge
Five glass candles (one for each of four weeks preceding Christmas and one for Christmas Eve/Day)
Organic aromatic herbs (lavender, rosemary, thyme) & hemp twine for bundling
Vintage buttons, ribbon and other adornments Handout with meditations for the season and tips for designing your own vibrant home traditions

EVERYONE WELCOME!

NO RELIGIOUS PERSPECTIVE OR ART-MAKING EXPERIENCE NECESSARY

Winter Solstice Mobile Workshop

Friday December 14, 5:30-7pm

The Winter Solstice marks the longest night before the days once again begin to lengthen. It is also a gathering point for ancient traditions which cultivate gratitude for warmth and plenty in a season of scarcity. One such custom is the adorning the home and yard with evergreen boughs and shiny decorations—believed in ancient times to encourage the Sun to shine more brightly. The Solstice is a great moment to claim for quiet reflection in a busy season.

Create an aromatic winter mobile: no artistic experience is necessary—everyone can do this! Dads, moms, children of all sizes, as well as the young at heart are welcome to this festive workshop.
The mobiles also make a unique gift for a loved one.

Materials Included:
Renewably-sourced branch as mobile base (from an orange or evergreen tree)
Sun catcher prism pendant
Dried fruit (pomegranate, apple, orange) and gold leaf powder to gild
Organic aromatic herbs (lavender, lemon balm, rosemary) & hemp twine for bundling
Vintage buttons, ribbon and other adornments
Bottlecaps and other shiny bits for repurposed shine
Wire
Handout with meditations for the season and tips for designing your own vibrant home traditions
Hot apple cider
