Here is a present for you. It is a guided Walking Meditation practice.
Pick a spot where you feel comfortable. You can choose a “lane” to walk in, somewhere in your home or office where you can easily take 10-15 steps and then turn. Labyrinths are of course a beautiful option but you can do a walking practice anywhere.
Walking meditation can be an acquired taste. So be gentle with yourself. One of the gifts of this type of practice is that the physical activity can discharge the extra energy in our body, making it easier for the fluctuations in the mind to calm down.
Also sometimes around the holidays people feel that they are walking in circles– revisiting family struggles or unsatisfied longings in their own heart: this practice gives you a way to work with that feeling rather than running from it or feeling like you should be in a different state.
One lovely variation: consider the people in your family or chosen family, holding them one by one in your mind/heart with each step.
And know that I am grateful for you Birder. Lit up in your own life, yet connected to others on a similar path. Thank you for being part of this community and for continuing with your own practice. I know that it (and you) bring sweetness into our world in countless ways.
And I wish for us all hope and joy being born again in our world and a peaceful close to 2014.
Nancy Goodman + I recorded this short interview for you about two key stumbling blocks which keep parents from seeing our children clearly. (Not a parent? Food for thought for relating to children in your family or community.) Take a listen + please share with a friend who might enjoy it!
I apologize somehow our dual phone lines from Colorado + Texas created a weird sound quality crackle but I’m sharing it anyway because I think the content is really important… and I wanted you to have it in your pocket in case you needed a breather around the holidays.
Our live ecourse, Parenting with the Enneagram: Nine Different Human Energies + How They Live in Children starts Jan 22 2015. So if you haven’t already sign up with your best email in the box below so you can be the first to know when full details roll out + registration opens in the new year.
In the mean time you can purchase the audio recording from my Learn Your Parenting Personality to discover your type and to get a taste of where we are headed in the six week ecourse. And I hope you will help me spread the word to other conscious parents!
