One of my professors in Divinity school talked about the power of the small, beautiful thing. Nothing noble, nothing earth-changing, not a treatise or magnum opus. Just the feeling of clicking into the world in the right way + sharing your little piece. An offering.
Today, Birder, for many reasons (having to do with the combination of the start of my Parenting eCourse + a feverish little one) all I have is one small beautiful thing. A favorite quote:
“We need a coat with two pockets. In one pocket there is dust, and in one pocket there is gold. We need a coat with two pockets to remind us who we are.” Parker Palmer
Remember who you are. A bit of both. And this is good.
What is your small, beautiful thing today?
Perhaps it is a piece of art, or interaction with nature, or poetry which lights you up…Whatever it is you can trust that it feeds you first before spilling over into the world.
