Happy Friday! When you read this I will be hiking on a volcano with my children. The very same one where Rich and I took a group of brand new Peace Corps volunteers and I accidentally got them lost on an unopened section of trail. (Rich and I were both so, ahem, responsible we were tapped to train the new recruits. Well we figured after that experience they could handle anything. Rich was also so happy to see me he gave me a huge hug, which might just be the very beginning of our romance as I think back on it now…)
But I digress. While I am exploring Volcan Mombacho I have something special planned for you today including a fresh guided meditation — which is a sample of what I am creating as part of my “Flourish Formula Toolkit” to go with the release of the book. You get to try it out first!
Even though we know that happiness is only found in the present moment: it is a common human struggle to spend a big chunk of our lives anticipating the worst (car crashes/cancer in those we love) or waiting for the best (like when you finally earn that certain amount, get published, or meet your love.)
Yet have you heard about the studies on happiness?
People who win the lottery after a period of time actually end up no more happy. And those who have a life-altering accident and lose the use of their limbs, after an adjustment period, actually return to their baseline happiness point.
So what does this mean if people who have lived through the best and the worst find themselves returning to the same basic viewpoint on life?
It turns out we have a happiness set point.
External circumstances don’t shift it.
You know what does?
So if you are interested in stretching your neural pathways and opening up your capacity to feel good — I invite you to invest in your meditation practice.
Here is a guided meditation to support you. This is a new type of meditation practice I haven’t shared before called Mudita. It is about training yourself to celebrate others’ success.
This is a super powerful idea — that rather than comparing and despairing (or wishing them ill) we can actually enjoy others’ accomplishments. And in so doing invite more joy and happiness to our own life.

I am so excited to announce that we are opening up the final few spots for our much anticipated Flourish Retreat + Book Launch Party in Granada, Nicaragua.
This new body of work, The Flourish Formula, was created from a deep desire to assist women who want to slow down yet accomplish/live/savor more.
Built out of more than a decade of professional, academic, and deep personal exploration it provides an elegant scaffolding or curriculum for enduring growth.
I also know that stretching into a new experience can stir our fears and bring up many questions.
So I am holding a live Q&A call where I will share many more details about the Flourish Retreat. I will be addressing questions from the practical to the profound such as…
* Where do I fly to?
* How do I get from the airport to the boutique hotel/retreat house?
* What is the plan for the food?
* I have not traveled internationally much by myself. Is it safe?
* I am coming by myself. Will there be groups of people getting together for dinner and other outings?

Also this Nicaragua gathering is unique: it will be the only time that I am offering a book launch party on Saturday night (to celebrate the drop of my ebook on Amazon — and our big goal of best seller status — on October 27). Bring something feel-good and sassy to wear because I am taking you all out on the town to one of the most beautiful restaurants in Granada.
I will also be sharing some new insights I have not shared before (because I continue to evolve and trust me, this move of my whole family to Nicaragua has taught me a lot.)
We already have an incredible group of women from across the US — but we have been able to open up two more rooms at the beautiful colonial casa turned boutique hotel. (We have rented the whole thing. It will be a “casa privada” or private house, just for us:)
And I just have this feeling that there are a couple more women who are being called to join us at this unique gathering and want to make space for you and answer all your questions.
